St. George Ferry Terminal Reconstruction

Over 65,000 patrons per day utilize the St. George Ferry Terminal to connect between bus and train services on Staten Island and ferry service to and from Manhattan.

The Challenge

Over 65,000 patrons per day utilize the St. George Ferry Terminal to connect between bus and train services on Staten Island and ferry service to and from Manhattan. Originally constructed in the 1940s, the ever-important Terminal B was in need of serious restoration in 2009, as determined by the New York City. This rehab required re-decking and steel rehab of eight elevated concrete and steel structures, as well as the complete demolition and realigned replacement of a ninth structure.

The Solution

The Conti Group is currently working to rehabilitate the busy terminal as per NYCDOT's wishes. Conti collaborated closely with its team of subcontractors to demolish approximately 230,000 square feet of existing concrete decks, and is now focusing on repair aspects of the project. This includes the construction and installation of around 10,000 cubic yards of new, elevated concrete decks and parapets that will be significant upgrades to their old counterparts. Conti will also perform a variety of restoration tasks, including removal of harmful lead paint from structural steel, asbestos abatement, and installation of a new Pigeon Deterrent System.

Conti is saving NYCDOT both time and money on this $154 million project by creating a thorough design and working diligently to execute it.
