The Challenge

The Defense Base Realignment and Closure Act (BRAC) affected the adjacent New Jersey military installations of Lakehurst Naval Air Station, McGuire Air Force Base, and Fort Dix by creating a single installation, known as Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. With the need of the Northeast Regional Army National Guard to obtain a Consolidated Logistics and Training Facility on the joint base, and with the need for this to come about in an era of budget-conscious federal spending, the New Jersey Department of Military and Veteran Affairs (NJDMVA) sought a construction firm with superior project controls, significant construction experience, and a track record for bringing projects smoothly to completion

The Solution

The Conti Group met NJDMVA's needs by constructing their new LEED Silver qualified facility on schedule and with significant cost savings. Conti provided more than 60 value-engineering proposals early in the project, resulting in more than $1.5 million in total savings in this $36 million 110,000-square-foot facility, which will contain two multipurpose classrooms and 16 work bays for training, maintaining vehicles and equipment.

Conti collaborated with the project design firm to incorporate value-engineering changes into the ongoing execution of the project, avoiding costly redesign delays. Beyond value engineering, Conti worked with the designer to develop solutions that met project requirements, while providing the least cost impact to the owner.
