Infrastructure Strengthening Win for Conti

July 25, 2011

In an opportunity to bolster transportation infrastructure throughout the northeastern US, The Conti Group has been awarded a large-scale bridge replacement contract. The job was awarded by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) and includes extensive reconstruction activities on mainline New Jersey Turnpike Eastern Spur Bridge over the Hackensack River in Secaucus, New Jersey.

Located on one of New Jersey’s busiest segments of highway, the 60-year-old multi-lane bridge carries commuters between Secaucus and Kearny across the Hackensack River. Conti will bring the deteriorating structure to 21st Century and NJTA standards by reconstructing the following major components:

  • Removal of existing Non composite Deck Slab and construction of New Concrete Deck Slab with High Performance Concrete
  • Seismic Retrofit including replacement of existing girder bearings with Seismic Isolation Bearings
  • Existing concrete sub-structure concrete spall repairs.
  • Structural Steel Retrofit and repairs for various existing bridge steel members
  • Removal of existing lead based paint off existing structural steel and repainting all existing and repaired structural steel members.
  • Improvement of the approach roadways to the Bridge.
  • Improvements to existing bridge pier Fender Protection System
  • Removal and stabilization of existing Rock closer to the North Approach of the Bridge.

NJTA aims is to provide New York and New Jersey with reliable, fully functional transportation assets; a goal that Conti is eager to make a reality. “We are looking forward to working with NJTA officials again to provide the public with up-to-date means of transportation,” said Pat Hogan, COO of Conti Enterprises, “and we plan to bring the same high quality performance to the Hackensack River bridge as all of our previous infrastructure work.”
