Under a contract awarded earlier this year by the Metropolitan Transit Authority, Conti of New York is performing repairs on three separate rail bridges in Long Island. The contract involves the rehabilitation of the North Bridge, Montauk Bridge, and Shinnecock Canal Bridge, all of which are along the Ronkonkoma Branch.
The $9 million project’s scope of work includes structural steel repairs, bearing replacement, and concrete abutment rehabilitations on the three rail bridges. In order to keep bridge closures and disruptions to commuter train traffic to a minimum for the public, Conti is planning optimal track outage times with the MTA, including during nighttime and off-hours.
“Conti is taking the same approach to rehabilitating these three bridges as all of our active rail projects,” said project manager Mike Brenner, “with the needs of the client and the public as top priorities at all times.” Conti is schedule to complete rehabilitation of all three bridges by late 2013.
